The cut-off mark of 150 remains the baseline
for admission into universities for the 2026/27 academic session.

This was disclosed by Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) today during its annual policy meeting in Abuja.

The meeting is often organised by JAMB to determine admission guidelines, cut-off marks and procedures for Universities, Polytechnics and Colleges of Education across the country.

JAMB said the decision followed a vote by Vice-Chancellors (VCs) available at the meeting.

Also, the Heads of Tertiary Institutions in Nigeria unanimously agreed that the Minimum Admissible Scores for admissions into Universities should be 150, Colleges of Nursing, 150, and Polytechnics, 100.

These came as Federal Government (FG) announced that candidates seeking admission into Colleges of Education would no longer be required to take the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).

The new policy is expected to take effect from the 2026/2027 academic session.

Speaking during the policy meeting, Minister of Education, Tunji Alausa, said candidates applying for Education-related courses would now be exempt from taking the UTME.

According to him, candidates with a minimum of four credit passes in relevant subjects would now be eligible to apply for admission into Colleges of Education without sitting for the examination.

Despite the exemption, the Minister explained that affected candidates would still be required to register with JAMB for documentation and admission processing.

He added that candidates’ credentials would undergo screening, verification and certification before admission letters are issued through the Central Admissions Processing System (CAPS).
