The race for Awka North and Awka South Federal Constituency seat of Anambra State in the House of Representatives has gained significant momentum following the official entry of lawyer and development professional, Kachi Aghasili.
Seeking to represent the constituency in the 2027 general elections, Aghasili formally obtained her Expression of Interest and Nomination Forms under the platform of the Labour Party (LP).
The move signals the formal commencement of her quest to clinch the party’s ticket ahead of the upcoming primary elections.
Aghasili’s entry into the contest is expected to reshape the political landscape in the state capital city’s federal constituency, given her background as a culture advocate and professional with deep roots in the community.
Speaking shortly after picking up the forms, the aspirant noted that her decision to run was borne out of a genuine desire to provide the people of Awka North and South purposeful and people-oriented representation.
She maintained that the constituency is in dire need of a legislative voice that is not only accessible and accountable but also competent and deeply committed to the welfare of the ordinary citizen.
Aghasili, a native of Nise in Awka South Local Government Area (LGA), emphasized that public office should ideally be a platform centered on integrity and measurable impact.
She expressed firm belief that the current political climate demands leaders who prioritize service over personal gain, ensuring that the dividends of democracy reach every corner of the constituency.
On her choice of LP, the legal practitioner explained that the party has increasingly become the vehicle for responsible leadership and social justice in Nigeria, pointing out that LP’s philosophy aligns with her personal values of inclusion and issue-based politics, which she intends to bring to the forefront of her campaign.
According to her, LP represents a beacon of hope for a cross-section of Nigerians, including the youth, professionals, and women who are yearning for a departure from the status quo.
Aghasili noted that the party’s rapid growth is a testament to the desire for a new political culture built on credibility, hard work, and an unwavering commitment to the people.
Drawing from her professional and community experiences, Aghasili highlighted the peculiar challenges facing the various towns within the federal constituency.
She pointed to infrastructure deficits, rising rate of youth unemployment, and the biting economic hardship as areas that require urgent legislative intervention and advocacy,to ameliorate.
She lamented that there has often been a disconnect between elected representatives and the people they serve, a gap she intends to bridge through consistent community engagement.
For her, effective representation must go beyond the halls of the National Assembly in Abuja to involve a hands-on approach to local issues and responsive leadership.
The aspirant stated that her constituency is blessed with resilient communities and talented individuals whose potentials remain largely untapped due to a lack of visionary leadership.
She promised to be a voice that listens to the realities of the people and advocates for policies and projects that will trigger meaningful development in both the rural and urban areas of the constituency.
Aghasili also spoke on the necessity of a generational shift in leadership, advocating for the emergence of leaders who combine empathy with professionalism.
According to her, the time is ripe for a new breed of politicians who are not only visionaries but also accessible to the constituents who gave them the mandate.
As the nationwide political processes move toward party primaries, Aghasili’s campaign outfit, the Kachi Aghasili Campaign Organization, has already begun mobilizing support across the wards in the two LGAs that make up her constituency.
The aspirant expressed gratitude to the various stakeholders, friends, and well-wishers who have encouraged her to step into the ring for the legislative seat.
She called for continued prayers and support from the electorate, noting that the task of transforming the constituency is a collective responsibility.
Aghasili reiterated that her campaign will be focused on the promise of what can be achieved through collaboration and a shared vision for a better Awka North and South.
Supporters within the LP have described her entry as a boost for the party’s prospects in Anambra State, citing her professional standing and community ties as major assets.
The Kachi Aghasili Campaign Organization, in a statement, confirmed that the formal picking of forms was a strategic step in ensuring that the party presents its best foot forward.
The organization maintained that their candidate represents the ideal mix of competence and compassion required for the 2027 race.
The constituency remains a high-stakes battleground for all major political players.
In her concluding remarks, Aghasili noted that while the journey ahead is significant, she remains undaunted by the challenges of the political terrain.
She pledged to remain focused on the issues that matter most to families in Awka North and South, ensuring that their voices are heard loudly in the national discourse.
With the nomination forms now in the kitty, the race for the green chamber has effectively shifted into a higher gear for the lawyer.
