Vinicius Jr. is undoubtedly the name on everyone’s lips this summer in Madrid. The Brazilian footballer, who has less than a year left on his contract, has yet to reach an agreement with the club to extend his contract.
Arsenal have already made a move to show their interest in the winger, and the speculation surrounding his future continues to grow, according to a report today in English edition of leading Spanish daily Sport.
The paper wrote that Real Madrid’s position is clear: they want to make an effort and renew Vinicius’s contract… but not at any price.
They are willing to improve his salary and adjust the contract to his role in the team without going overboard.
Quoting ESPN, the paper reported that the club’s Sporting Directors have already sent the player’s agents a salary offer of €22 million per year.
However, according to the same source, this high amount is significantly far from Vinicius’s financial demands. He currently earns just over €20 million annually and hopes to reach €30 million in his new contract.
ESPN has not specified the length of the contract proposed by Real Madrid, a factor that could also play a role in the negotiations.
They do, however, report that both parties are scheduled to meet this Wednesday (5 August) to discuss his future.
And The Renewal Bonus?
Another point of contention between Real Madrid and Vinicius, as reported by another sport daily, El Periódico, is the renewal bonus.
The forward is demanding the exact same amount the club pays to players who arrive at the Santiago Bernabéu on free transfers, something they have recently done with players like Mbappé, Rüdiger, Alexander-Arnold, and Konaté.
Real Madrid president Florentino Pérez refuses to pay a signing bonus to a player already at the club, to whom he has offered a contract extension.
Furthermore, if there’s one thing Real Madrid has made clear in recent weeks, it’s that they won’t let the Brazilian leave for free next summer.
And in this context, Arsenal’s strong interest, having already contacted Vini’s representatives, has emerged as a possible solution to this drawn-out saga.
A busy few days are ahead in the Spanish capital with negotiations between Real Madrid and Vinicius.
This Monday, the footballer returned to training and joined the preseason squad of José Mourinho’s revamped project.
Smiling, he passed his medical tests to begin what, baring a move this summer, will be his ninth season with Real Madrid.
