Troops of Sector 2, Joint Task Force North West, codenamed ‘Operation FANSAN YAMMA’, have recorded another operational success against terrorists in Zamfara State, neutralising three suspected terrorists and recovering arms and ammunition during a fighting patrol.
The operation was carried out in the early hours of Thursday across Kaura Namoda and Birnin Magaji Local Government Areas as part of ongoing efforts to rid the area of criminal elements and restore peace in the North-West region.
According to a statement issued by the Media Information Officer of the Joint Task Force, Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja, troops engaged armed terrorists at Doumbourum Village, leading to a fierce exchange of gunfire.
He said the troops overpowered the terrorists with superior firepower, forcing them to flee and suffering heavy casualties.
The statement disclosed that three terrorists were neutralised during the operation, while troops recovered one AK-47 rifle, one machine gun, one locally fabricated handgun, seven rifle magazines, and 571 rounds of ammunition.
No casualty was recorded among the troops during the operation, the statement added.
The Joint Task Force described the latest success as a reflection of the commitment, resilience, and professionalism of troops involved in ongoing counter-terrorism operations across the North-West.
The war theatre command also appealed to members of the public to continue supporting security agencies with timely and credible information to enhance ongoing operations aimed at ensuring lasting peace and security in Zamfara State and the wider North-West.
