The Nigerian Senate has suspended Abdul Ningi, senator representing Bauchi central, for alleging that the 2024 budget was padded by N3trn. The Senator was on Tuesday handed a 3-month suspension by his colleagues who said his action tarnished the image of the nation's highest legislative house. In a committee meeting today, the Senate also frowned at the manner in which he deliberately publicised the allegation. One of Nigeria’s prolific comedians, John Ikechukwu Okafor, is dead. He died at the age of 62 after complications arising from an ailment which led to the amputation of one of his legs. The veteran comedian passed away at Evercare hospital. Mr Ibu, born on October 17 1961, hailed from Nkanu West local government of Enugu State. After elementary school, in 1974, Okafor moved to Sapele to stay with his brother, after his father’s demise. The All Progressives Congress (APC) has declared its governorship primary election in Edo state inconclusive. It did not give further details but the party has scheduled another primary election for Thursday to unveil its candidate for the September 21, 2024 governorship election in the state. A helicopter ferrying Herbert Wigwe, promoter of Wigwe University, has reportedly crashed, killing him and five others in California. There are unconfirmed reports that he was traveling with members of his family. Reports said the chopper was headed to Las Vegas when it crashed near a border city between Nevada and California on Friday night. Herbert Onyewumbu Wigwe, born 15 August, 1966 in Ibadan, was also the CEO of Access Holdings PLC, traded as Access Corporation. The interconnect debt dispute between MTN Nigeria Communications Plc. (MTN) and Globacom Limited (Globacom) has been amicably resolved. This is contained in an announcement on Thursday, by the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC). The statement signed by Mr. Reuben Muoka, Director Public Affairs at the NCC said in accordance with this resolution, the disconnection approval granted to MTN for the disconnection of Globacom has now been withdrawn.  Following its initial Public Notice, the Commission with the aim of mitigating any potential disruptions to subscribers undertook further regulatory intervention, by mediating between the parties and facilitating the reconciliation process.  Aminu Maida, EVC…

The Federal Government has banned the production and sale of alcoholic beverages in sachets less than 200ml across Nigeria. The ban was announced on Monday, February 5, by the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC). The Federal Government agency said the five-year window given to the manufacturers of the products to stop producing the drinks in sachets and pet bottles which began in 2018 elapsed on January 31, 2024. A private jet with about 10 persons on board, including Very Important Personalities (VIPs), has overshot the Ibadan airport runway in the Oyo State capital. The incident happened on Friday around 11 am at the Samuel Ladoke Akintola Airport, according to a report on CHANNELS TV. The jet with registration number, N580KR, missed the runway and skidded into the nearby bush. it is the second time such an accident would be recorded in the airport in the past three months. The extension takes effect from 17 January, 2024. This followed the announcement that the parties have now reached agreement to resolve all outstanding issues between them.
