My N20m House Was Auctioned For N2m Due To N.3m Debt -Kano Resident Cries Out

By our reporter

A sad twist of fate came for Kano resident, Malam Surajo Yarima, as he lost his residential property, which he valued at N20 million, to a court judgment and subsequent auction.

He told local broadcast outfit, Hikima RTV, that the house was auctioned for about N2 million, because of a N300,000 debt he owed someone.

Following the court verdict,he said, his family of 11 are presently homeless and “sleeping outside.”

Yarima has called on Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, to show milk of human kindness by wading into the matter.

Yarima recounted how the court summoned him several times through notices pasted on his house gate, saying he traveled outside the state for long and so could not appear.

According to him, it was after the judgment and auction of the property that he returned to the state with the N300,000, regretting that when he presented the money to his creditor, the latter rejected the repayment.

His words: “I returned to Kano after the judgment and brought the N300,000 to settle the debt on January 6, two days after the auction. However, my creditor refused to accept the payment.”

Yarima added that the judiciary informed him that he had 21 days to appeal the court verdict, but bemoaned the action of auctioning his property even before he could take up the appeal.

“My house was auctioned for only N2 million, and now my family and I are sleeping outside,” he said.

Again, he urged the State government to investigate the incident, citing an alleged lack of transparency in the judicial process.
