The Senior Special Assistant to President Bola Tinubu on Media Matters, Mr. Tunde Rahman, says the country is presently not witnessing bad governance.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, he said, is doing his best at the moment and the people will soon start reaping the fruits of his good policies.
He spoke Tuesday at the annual Lateef Jakande memorial lecture organized by the Nigerian Guild of Editors in Lagos.
Against the backdrop of the planned nationwide protest starting from August 1, Rahman urged Nigerians to be mindful of the people calling for the protests. He believes they may not have the best intentions for the country.
In reporting the matter, he urged the media to be patriotic, show understanding and restraint.
“The call for protest goes with the tag #EndBadGovernance, but I don’t believe that there is bad governance at the moment because President Tinubu is doing his best to right the wrongs in the country”.
According to him “people have the right to protest but we don’t know the faces behind the protest and what their intentions are”.
On the Lateef lecture, he praised the late elder statesman for his many enduring legacies for the media industry and the society in general.
He observed that the annual lecture instituted by the Nigerian Guild of Editors as well as several other monuments standing in his name, are testaments to his vision as a journalist, a politician and a statesman.
