Stakeholders of the opposition African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Sokoto State have thrown their weight behind former Vice President (VP) Atiku Abubakar ahead of the party’s presidential primary slated for Monday.
The endorsement was disclosed on Sunday during a press briefing in Sokoto by Alhaji Muktar Umar Maigori, former Chief of Staff to ex-governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, an ADC heavyweight.
Maigori disclosed that party leaders and supporters across the state unanimously agreed to adopt Abubakar, popularly known simply as Atiku, as the consensus presidential candidate of the party in Sokoto State ahead 2027.
According to him, the decision followed extensive consultations among party stakeholders aimed at promoting unity and strengthening ADC’s chances in the upcoming elections.
He described Atiku as an experienced leader with the capacity to provide direction for the country, noting that the endorsement reflects the confidence reposed in him by party members in the state.
The briefing attracted several top figures of the party, including former Commissioner for Information, Alhaji Dahiru Maishanu; former Head of Service, Alhaji Abubakar Muhammad; as well as the State Chairman of ADC, Alhaji Abdullahi Maigwandu, and others.
