Former Vice President (VP) Atiku Abubakar has won the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential primary election in Sokoto State with a landslide victory, polling 68,823 votes in the process.
The result was announced at the party’s state secretariat in Sokoto by Chairman of the ADC Presidential Primary Election Committee, Professor Aliyu Abubakar, today .
The Committee Chairman described the exercise as peaceful, transparent and credible.
According to him, a total of 69,431 votes were cast during the exercise.
Other contestants trailed far behind, with former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi securing 292 votes, while Muhammed Hayatudeen polled 319 votes.
Formally declaring the outcome of the election, Prof. Abubakar said Atiku has emerged winner.
The event attracted several party leaders and stakeholders, including former Sokoto State Governor, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal; ADC governorship candidate in the state, Manir Dan’Iya; and senatorial candidates Faruk Malami Yabo and Mani Maichinko.
Also present were the ADC State Chairman, Alhaji Abdullahi Maigwandu, party delegates and supporters who cheered the outcome of the primary election.
