Ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) today girded its loins for the 2027 general elections, electing President Bola Tinubu as its presidential flagbearer for the January polls.
By a massive 10.99 million votes, Tinubu, the Jagaban Borgu, walloped his sole rival, Stanley Osifo, who secured 16,504 votes in the party’s presidential primary which held in 8,809 wards nationwide.
At the ongoing national collation of the presidential primary results, held at President Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre in Abuja, party stalwarts and others cheered vociferously as Tinubu clinched the re-election ticket.
He is poised to face serious challenges from the likes of Mr Peter Obi, already picked as presidential candidate of Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Atiku Abubakar, most likely to be elected by African Democratic Congress (APC), and other titans in opposition political parties.
Tinubu’s APC presently controls a whopping 31 state governments with their governors and several party heavyweights acting as Coordinators and Collation Officers for the presidential primary in their different states.
Results from the nation’s 36 states showed that Tinubu beat Osifo in all the states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) in what amounted to a landslide.
The APC state governors later presented the scores from the direct primary to the Presidential Primary Election Committee (PPEC) headed by former Secretary to Government of the Federation(SGF)/former Senate President, Chief Pius Anyim.
Though defeated, Osifo performed reasonably well in states such as Niger, scoring 5,248, Kano, 2,675, Lagos,1,186, Abia, 1,007, Oyo,929, Benue, 779, and Nasarawa, 768.
