Vehicles with covered plate numbers in Nasarawa State are to be impounded and booked.

The sector commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Nasarawa Sector Command, Corps Commander Lucie Samuel Mhii, stated this in Lafia on Monday during a press briefing.

According to her, this followed growing concerns regarding covered vehicle plates and the associated security risks, adding that covering vehicle number plates undermines security protocols and poses a significant threat to public safety.

The increasing prevalence of covered number plates is unacceptable as it facilitates criminal activities and obstructs law enforcement efforts, she said.

She added that the command is implementing a comprehensive strategy, including aggressive public enlightenment campaigns, advocacy visits, and courtesy visits to stem the tide.

In her words, “These measures aim to educate the motoring public about the dangers of using covered number plates. Additionally, the command will begin the immediate apprehension and booking of vehicles with covered number plates to curb this threat.”

She called on the public to cooperate with the command in addressing “this security risk and to refrain from covering their vehicle number plates”.
