Igbo Movie Filmmakers Association of Nigeria (IMFAN) has elected a new national President, John Paul Nwanganga, to pilot its affairs for two years.
He won election to the position of national President with a total of 32 votes during the 2026 national election of the body which took place at the 7th Planet, Trans Ekulu, Enugu on Sunday.
Other elected executive positions include that of the Vice President, won by Ngozi Okeke; Secretary, Paul Ibeh; Assistant Secretary, Joyce Ikem; Financial Secretary, Ifemelumma Rita; Director of Socials, Uchenna Okoro; and Provost, Izuchukwu Orjioke.
The Chairman, national electoral committee of the association, Igwe Okey Zinja, declaring the results, commended Nwanganga for conducting the first election of the association, stressing that the past leadership of the association were based on selection.
He appreciated the veterans and actors for turning out to vote for a new leadership and advised the new executives to take the association to the promised land by extending the achievement frontiers of the body.
Nwanganga, in his inaugural speech, appreciated the members for electing him to pilot the affairs of the association for two years.
He promised that his administration will reposition the body, strengthen its unity and restore the body’s pride.
He further noted that his leadership will give the association stronger identity, open new opportunities through partnership and collaboration, preserve the dignity of the Igbo language and culture.
Veteran actor Ferdinand Ohanekwu, in an interview, commended the successful election of new executives and urged them to do better than what was done by the previous administration.
He also advised them to focus more on producing Igbo films.
Furthermore, he counseled young actors to emulate veteran actors like Pete Edochie, Obi Okoye and others.
Nkiru Sylvanus, earlier in an interview, emphasized that the association will focus more on the areas that highlight Igbo heritage and culture.
“We are going to talk about Igbos that don’t easily give up. They are resilient,” she said.
