Sokoto State Government has approved the sum of N1.759 billion for the procurement of 1,000 Bajaj-brand motorcycles for security agencies as part of measures to strengthen operations against banditry across the North-Western state.
The approval was made at the sixth regular meeting of the State Executive Council (SEC) for 2026, chaired by the Deputy Governor, Idris Muhammad Gobir.
The motorcycles are expected to improve the mobility and operational capacity of security personnel, particularly in communities and areas affected by bandit attacks.
The latest procurement comes shortly after the state government acquired 62 armoured vehicles at a cost of N27 billion and distributed them to security agencies to support their operations.
Beyond security, the Council approved several projects in education, healthcare, water supply and skills development.
Among them is N723.17 million for the renovation of Government Technical College, Runjin Sambo, while N498.99 million was approved for the rehabilitation of A.A. Raji Special School.
The Council also approved N489.32 million for the renovation of Phase I of the College of Nursing Sciences, and N229.36 million for the renovation of male and female hostels at the College of Basic and Remedial Studies.
For the College of Agriculture and Animal Science, Wurno, N174.64 million was approved to be spent on renovation of staff quarters and upgrading of the perimeter fence.
The Council further approved N133.67 million for the construction of a perimeter fence at Wamakko Primary Health Centre.
In another move aimed at promoting skills acquisition among women, N93.88 million was approved for the procurement of vocational learning equipment for 46 women’s vocational centres across the state’s 23 Local Government Areas (LGAs).
The government also approved N90.21 million for purchase of PVC pipes and plumbing fittings for the maintenance of 142 semi-urban water supply schemes across the state.
The Council meeting, which lasted about two hours, was attended by relevant members of SEC.
The resolutions were contained in a statement issued by the Director General, Media and Publicity, Government House, Sokoto, Abubakar Bawa, on Wednesday.
