Enugu State Government, through its Ministry of Health, has sealed no fewer than four private health facilities (hospitals) in Enugu North Local Government Area (LGA) of the state.
Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Ministry, Mrs Chidiogo Ugodu, in a statement today (Thursday, 9 July) in Enugu, disclosed that the hospitals were sealed on 8 July.
According to the statement, the health facilities were sealed for not being licensed and meeting necessary regulatory requirements.
The Ministry has intensified monitoring and supervision of private health facilities across the state as part of efforts to ensure quality healthcare delivery and compliance with regulatory standards, the PRO added.
The Ministry said that the renewed exercise was initiated by the State Commissioner for Health, Professor George Ugwu.
The statement revealed that the Director of Medical Services, Dr Chinyere Ezeudu, led a team of senior directors from the Ministry on an unscheduled inspection visit to health facilities in Enugu North LGA.
“The monitoring exercise was aimed at ensuring that all private hospitals and healthcare providers operating in the state comply with statutory requirements.
“These statutory requirements included: the renewal of operating licences and proper registration of facilities that are yet to be captured by the regulatory authorities,” it said.
The statement added that during the visit, the team inspected seven private health facilities, assessing their operational status, documentation, licensing compliance, and adherence to required healthcare standards.
Speaking, Prof. Ugwu reaffirmed the commitment of the administration of Governor Peter Mbah to protect residents by promoting safe, effective, and quality healthcare services.
Ugwu emphasised that the supervision exercise would be sustained across the state to ensure that only duly approved and compliant facilities provide healthcare services to the people.
He, therefore, urged all private health facility operators in the state to regularise their operations by renewing expired licences or registering their facilities where necessary.
“The ongoing monitoring exercise is not only a regulatory measure but also a critical step towards strengthening the health system and safeguarding the lives of citizens,” he said.
It would be recalled that some weeks ago, the Ministry also sealed three hospitals operating without operational licence within Enugu South LGA of the state.
Former State Chairmen Of Defunct ACN Reaffirm Loyalty To Ruling APC, Nwoye Drums Grassroots Mobilization
Past State Chairmen of the defunct Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), operating under the platform of G-37, led by Hon. Cletus Obun, have reaffirmed their loyalty to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), stressing the need for greater unity within the party’s fold ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The group stated this during a solidarity meeting at the APC National Secretariat in Abuja, where they met with the party’s Deputy National Chairman, Dr. Benjamin Obi Nwoye, and other members of the National Working Committee (NWC).
Speaking on their behalf, Obun noted that the former ACN Chairmen had come to pledge their continued support for the APC leadership and congratulate the party’s newly elected national officers.
He described the visit as a demonstration of solidarity and commitment to strengthening the ruling party.
Obun also harped on the importance of respecting the contributions of the party’s founding members, pointing out that the sacrifices made by those who built APC should not be forgotten.
He therefore, urged the new leadership to carry everyone along and promote inclusiveness as the party prepares for future elections.
The G-37 leader expressed confidence in the capacity of the party’s new national officers, praying for wisdom, courage and divine guidance as they assume their responsibilities.
He equally called on the leadership to deepen internal consultation and ensure that state party structures remain central to the party’s decision-making process.
In his response, the APC Deputy National Chairman (DNC), South, Dr. Nwoye, who is one of them, expressed appreciation to the former ACN Chairmen for their solidarity, describing the visit as a strong reminder of the sacrifices that produced the APC.
Nwoye stated that the ruling party must remain united despite the emergence of opposition alliances, insisting that members should not abandon the ideals upon which the APC was founded.
According to the former Enugu state Chairman of the party, many APC leaders came from legacy political parties, including the ACN, ANPP, CPC and other platforms, stressing that acknowledging those political roots should strengthen rather than divide the party.
The DNC urged members to intensify mobilisation at the grassroots to ensure President Bola Tinubu secures a second term in office, arguing that the administration’s reforms and infrastructure projects would deliver long-term benefits for Nigerians.
He cited ongoing road infrastructure across different parts of the country as evidence of the administration’s commitment to national development, saying the impact of the reforms would become more evident over time.
Nwoye also appealed to party members not to become discouraged by personal political disappointments, urging them instead to continue making sacrifices for the collective interest of the APC and the country.
