To ensure uninterrupted power supply to the seat of power of Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA), a faulty electricity transformer serving the Office of FCT Minister, Barrister Nyesom Wike, has been fixed.
The job was executed by FCTA’s Department of Facilities Maintenance and Management (DFMM), in partnership with service provider, Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC).
A press statement by DFMM’s Head of Information/Public Relations Officer (PRO), David Udo, a copy of which was made available to People&Politics, which disclosed these, explained that the department successfully reinstalled the repaired 1MVA transformer (11KV/0.415KV) at the Minister’s Block of the FCTA Secretariat, Area 11, Garki, Abuja.
Udo stated that the transformer, which had “been out of circuit” since 3 March due to technical faults, “underwent extensive assessment, testing, and repairs at the AEDC workshop before being reinstalled on April 6.”
The statement added: “This restoration marks a significant step in ensuring uninterrupted power supply to support critical government operations.
“During the reinstallation, the Overseeing Director of FMM, Engr. (Dr.) Ayuba A. Usman, FNSE, emphasised the importance of stable electricity in sustaining efficient governance.
“He noted that, in the absence of public power, the Honourable Minister’s Block had relied on 650KVA and 800KVA generator sets, incurring high diesel costs.”
The statement quoted the Director as saying the development “was a challenge the department had to grapple with, but we are pleased that the restored transformer will now ease operations and reduce expenses.”
Dr. Usman expressed gratitude to the Minister; the Coordinator of AMMC, Barrister Felix Obuah; and the Department’s electrical services team for their commitment and collaboration in achieving the feat, pointing out that AEDC has assured of continuous monitoring of the transformer to maintain optimal performance and operational standards.
The reinstallation was executed in strict compliance with safety protocols by AEDC engineers working alongside DFMM’s technical team, the statement insisted, noting that “this achievement underscores the strong synergy between FCTA and AEDC in delivering timely solutions to infrastructure challenges, thereby averting a costly overhaul.”
