Benue Gov Assures Corps Members Of Safety

Benue State Governor, Dr. Hyacinth Alia, has assured members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) deployed to the state of their safety, regardless of their places of primary assignment.

He gave the assurance during the closing ceremony of the 2025 Batch A Stream 1 orientation course, held in Wannune, Tarka Local Government Area (LGA) of the state.

“Let me assure you that there is no reason to entertain any iota of fear in your various locations across the state, as the government under my watch has put in place proactive security measures to ensure your safety throughout the service year.

“In a similar manner, the people of Benue State are peace-loving and accommodating. I therefore implore you to be open to the warm reception that awaits you. Integrate freely and enjoy our hospitality,” the governor said.

Governor Alia, who has in the past decried deadly attacks in the state—often attributed to armed herders—urged corps members to be ambassadors of peace and agents of change in their host communities.

He encouraged the youth to offer selfless intellectual and physical service by adding value to their communities and improving lives.

Reiterating his administration’s support for the NYSC scheme, the governor also commended the NYSC management for their exemplary leadership and for imparting entrepreneurial skills to the corps members.

Earlier in her remarks, the NYSC Benue State Coordinator, Mrs. Veronica Garba, thanked the governor for his consistent support since assuming office.

She congratulated the corps members on the successful completion of their orientation and urged them to uphold the values of the scheme in their places of primary assignment.

“As you proceed to your various places of posting, I urge you to be good ambassadors of the NYSC, your families, and institutions of graduation. Avoid all negative acts that could tarnish your image or that of the scheme—such as drug abuse, cybercrime, cultism, bribery, and related offences,” she said.

The Coordinator also commended the competence and commitment of camp officials, as well as individuals and organisations whose support contributed to the success of the orientation programme.
