At Matriculation Ceremony, Taraba Varsity VC Tasks New Students On Discipline

About 6000 students of Taraba State University (TSU), Jalingo, were matriculated today, March 28, with the Vice Chancellor (VC), Professor Sunday Paul Bako, tasking the newly admitted students on self-discipline, self-care and strong work ethic.

Professor Bako, who urged them to remember that they are ambassadors of the university, said their conduct on and off the campus should reflect the university’s values.

The VC spoke while delivering a speech at the 16th matriculation ceremony of the university.

“As you embark on this journey, I encourage you to emulate your lecturers’ examples, embracing self-discipline, self-care and a strong work ethic,” he said.

Congratulating the students that made the university’s admission list for the 2024/2025 academic session, the VC assured that the institution’s programme was in line with the National Universities Commission (NUC)’s approval.

He added that TSU is committed to providing world-class education that prepares its students for success in their chosen fields.

“At Taraba State University, we pride ourselves on being a student-centred institution, dedicated to grooming generational leaders.

“While university life is often associated with freedom, we believe that this freedom comes with responsibilities and boundaries. Our focus is in academic excellence, character and development, and preparing students to make meaningful contributions globally”, he said.

Dwelling on his accomplishments so far as VC, Professor Bako highlighted infrastructural development as of many.

He said: “We have invested heavily in infrastructure development, constructing modern lecture theaters, laboratories, and student-friendly facilities, including healthcare and recreational centres.”

The VC emphasized that all his achievements under the guidance and support of the institution’s Visitor, the state governor, Dr. Agbu Kefas.

Earlier, the matriculation oath had been administered on the students by the University Registrar, Joseph Umar Bibinu.

Most of the students were visibly excited and thrilled to be officially admitted into the university community.

For instance, one of them, Mrs. Perpetua Nneka Okerafor, who was admitted to read Guidance and Counseling, a course under the Faculty of Education, expressed joy at being one of the lucky students to be admitted and matriculated in the university.

She pledged to abide by the oath she took by living a disciplined life throughout the duration of her course of study so as to be a good ambassador of the institution.
