The suspect in a school shooting in the Bang Kruai district of Nonthaburi province in Thailand killed eight people in total today (Friday), police said.
First he shot his grandparents dead, using his grandfather’s handgun, then went to his school, the Debsirin Nonthaburi School on Bangkok’s outskirts, and killed three teachers and three students, according to national police.
The school is one of a network of Debsirin secondary schools, which were founded by the Thai royal family. Alumni include Prime Ministers, scholars and writers.
The Nonthaburi Provincial Police Commander, Lt. Col. Dechrapee Kongdee, confirmed that the suspected gunman had taken his own life.
The suspected gunman, who was a student, fired 26 rounds and another 34 rounds of ammunition were found at the scene, police said in a statement.
The suspect was in the ninth grade (typically about 14 years old), Kongdee told the BBC.
It is the second school shooting in Thailand this year after a teacher died and a student was injured in the south of the country in February.
The shooter was a student who remained inside the school after reports of the attack first emerged, the Permanent Secretary for the Interior Ministry, Arsit Sampantharat, told news station PPTV.
A witness told reporters that students hid inside a classroom while they heard gunshots from another building before police officers knocked on the door and cleared a way for them to leave the building.
In the 2025 academic year, the Debsirin School had an enrolment of about 3,100 students and 147 teachers, according to district authorities.
