Intense lobbying has kicked off in Nasarawa state, North-Central Nigeria, for top government positions following the sack of many very senior officials by the state governor, Abdullahi Sule.

In a major shake-up on Friday, Gov. Sule sent home the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Barrister Muhammad Aliyu-Ubamdoma, all Commissioners, Senior Special Advisers (SSAs), Special Advisers, and Personal Assistants (PAs).

The disclosure came during an emergency State Executive Council (SEC) meeting at Government House, Lafia, the state capital, on Friday.

The mass sack came after Vice President Kashim Shetima’s departure from the state during which he inaugurated some projects.

Politicians of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), professionals who hail from Nasarawa state and many other persons interested in replacing those sacked, are said to be reaching out to powerful Abuja-based politicians of Nasarawa descent, godfathers and just about anyone who has the governor’s ears, to put in a good word for them.

“It’s like a bazaar. So many people are interested in the offices. Some aides of the governor said his phones haven’t stopped ringing since yesterday (Friday) as influential persons lobby for one candidate or the other,” a source told peopleandpolitics.net.

A national newspaper, which broke the news of the SEC’s sack, quoted an unidentified senior government official as saying “although the exact reasons for the dissolution are unclear, the governor is known for restructuring the state’s administration.”

Governor Sule had about about three years ago also sacked the SEC, justifying the action on the need for greater effectiveness and efficiency in governance.
