Obidient Movement Endorses Peter Obi For President, Ekwunife For Senate

*Says Senator Not Working Against Peter Obi’s Aspiration

Leaders of the New Nigeria Mandate, a major support group within the OBIDIENT family in Anambra State, have endorsed the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Mr. Peter Obi for the presidency and Senator Uche Ekwunife of the Peoples Democratic Party for another term as the Senator for Anambra Central.

They have subsequently directed their teeming members especially in Anambra Central to mobilize their supporters and vote along that line on Saturday.


In a statement made available to newsmen after a press conference in Awka on Monday February 20, 2023, the group led by Hon. Peter Ezenwafor said Peter Obi has what it takes to preside over the affairs of Nigeria and turn her fortunes around.

Also, in endorsing Senator Uche Ekwunife for another term, the group said Anambra Central would be making a wise decision to re-elect her as the Senator representing the district in the forthcoming election. They described her as “a leader who has demonstrated great love and passion for her people through her community projects across all the Wards in Anambra Central”.

On the rumours making the rounds in some quarters that the Senator is campaigning against Mr. Peter Obi of the Labour Party, they group declared it was all propaganda. “We would like to state that this is a calculated falsehood by enemies of good governance, and merchants of propaganda; as Senator Uche Ekwunife has never been caught on tape, or by any other means, neither is there any evidence to prove that she is speaking ill of Mr. Peter Obi or his political ambition”.

The group which has presence in many states across Nigeria, and all the Local Government Areas in Anambra State, exonerated the Senator from the ‘unfounded allegations’ that she was working against the presidential aspirations of Mr Peter Obi.

Senator Uche Ekwunife

The leaders singled out Ekwunife for endorsement for the Senate because “her achievements are resounding and her impacts in developing human resources in Anambra Central are enviable and exceptional”.

Through her recommendation and assistance, they said, lots of Anambra Central youths have gotten good federal and pensionable jobs, and many have been empowered through her various human empowerment programs. “Distinguished Senator Uche Ekwunife is a lover and campaigner of good governance, and she has exhibited proper representation of the people at the National Assembly”, the statement said.

Senator Uche Ekwunife has constructed 3 Bedroom bungalows for 39 indigent families, widows and the poor. She has attracted the construction of new roads, and the renovation of old ones in almost all the 59 Communities that make up Anambra Central Senatorial District.

The statement was signed by Hon Peter Ezenwafor, Anambra State Chairman of the group. Others include chairmen of the group in the various local government areas of Anambra Central: Mr Chuks Ibe, (Awka South); Mr Aguluka Nnamdi (Anaocha); Mr Nkam Uchenna (Awka North); Mr Kingsman Nwankwo (Dunukofia); Mr Adigwe Samson (Idemmili North); Mr Chukwuma Unegbu (Idemmili South) and Mr Ifeanyi Okafor (Njikoka)
