A ransom demand of N30 million has reportedly been made by terrorists for the release of six clerics kidnapped after they attended special prayer sessions for President Bola Tinubu and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in troubled Zamfara State, North-West Nigeria.
The prayers, apparently made to boost the political fortunes of both Tinubu and APC as the 2027 general elections inch closer, were reportedly organized by Director General (DG) of the party’s Presidential Campaign Council (PCC) and former governor of Zamfara State, Senator Abdulaziz Yari.
Claim of the ransom demand emerged following a post on Facebook today (Tuesday, 22 September) by conflict reporter, D English Alhaji.
It is unclear who will pay the ransom or if such will be paid at all even as the fate of the clerics presently hangs in the balance.
Kidnapping for ransom is a regular occurrence in the country.
Sometimes ransom is paid and at other times, armed security personnel are despatched to secure the release of victims.
