Fast on the heels of his defection to Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), former Deputy Senate President, Sen. Ovie Omo-Agege, who today announced his pivoting to NDC, has been granted waiver by the party to run for Delta Central senatorial district seat in 2027.
Omo-Agege will face tough competition from incumbent Senator Ede Dafinone of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
The party also gave waiver to ex-Speaker, Delta State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Victor Ochei, to contest for Delta North senatorial seat.
He will be up, among others, against former Delta State governor Ifeanyi Okowa of APC.
A statement by NDC National Publicity Secretary, Osa Director Esq., noted that the decision followed the formal defection of Sen. Omo-Agege and Rt. Hon. Ochei from APC to NDC.
“The NDC warmly welcomes both distinguished political leaders into the party and assures them of a credible, inclusive, and people-oriented platform to advance their political aspirations and contribute meaningfully to the development of Delta State and Nigeria at large.
“The leadership of the party notes that the decision to grant the waivers was taken in recognition of their political experience, leadership capacity, and commitment to democratic ideals, good governance, and service to the people,” Director stated.
The party leadership expressed confidence that both personalities possess “the competence, experience, and grassroots support necessary to deliver quality representation to the people of Delta Central and Delta North Senatorial Districts.”
