First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has described as worrisome the incidents of mass abductions recorded in parts of the country even as she pleaded with Nigerians for patience as the authorities take the bull by the horns.
At a Christmas interaction with children at the State House Conference Centre, Abuja, on Thursday, 11 December, she reiterated that government was working to address the nation’s security challenges, especially those affecting children.
On ongoing rescue operations, Mrs Tinubu noted that the administration had responded quickly to the incidents of mass kidnapping, pointing out, however, that managing security in a country as big in size as Nigeria required patience and sustained national effort.
Recall that over the years, hundreds of thousands of Nigerians have reportedly been killed by terrorists.
According to her, several children who attended the event expressed interest in joining the military, stressing that their keenness indicated a growing desire among young Nigerians to assist in national security.
The First Lady, a former senator, further used the Christmas programme, in which children from less-privileged backgrounds are brought together in the seat of power, to encourage Nigerians to embrace cultural identity and show generosity during the festive season.
To her, Christmas offers an opportunity to promote story-telling and traditions that reflect Africa’s heritage just as the Christian festivity reinforces community support through charity.
Mrs Tinubu implored Nigerians to prioritise generosity in 2026, noting that freewill giving to those in need is a fulcrum to building resilient communities.
