Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has arrested three suspects for alleged fake dollar scam and ‘one chance’ criminality within Enugu metropolis, South-East Nigeria.

In the process, NSCDC recovered fake identification cards, a suspected stolen tricycle with Adamawa state registration number painted in Enugu colour from the suspects.

Operatives of the security outfits are also investigating the suspects’ confession that they have a stash of dollars primed to undergo counterfeit washing with chemicals.

Commandant of NSCDC, Enugu State Command, Dr Elijah Willie, disclosed these while parading the suspects on Thursday in Enugu.

He said the suspects were apprehended at about 11:28a.m. on Tuesday, January 28.

Willie revealed that a tricycle was intercepted by operatives of NSCDC between NOWAS and New Market axis of Enugu and upon investigation, it was discovered that the suspects were involved in fake dollar scam and ‘one chance’ activity.

“The suspects have been posing as legitimate tricycle operators, picking up unsuspecting passengers and attempting to trick them into parting with their valuables.

“The modus operandi involved the suspects creating a distraction, such as a fake argument or a sudden stop, and then robbing the passengers of their belongings,” he said.

“We are encouraging law enforcement agencies and their personnel to increase patrols and surveillance in areas prone to ‘one chance’ criminal activities in the state,” he said.

The Commandant commended the swift response of NSCDC operatives in the case under investigation, which prevented further harm to unsuspecting passengers and resulted in the apprehension of the suspects.

“The public is assured that the authorities will continue to work tirelessly to prevent such crimes as NSCDC officers and men will go all out to put a stop to these criminal activities.
