Board of Trustees (BoT) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has reiterated that the party has moved past the period of uncertainty over persistent litigation, adding that the party is now rebuilding and will come out stronger and better.
The BoT Chairman, Senator Mao Ohuabunwa, in a statement on Tuesday, 21 July, said last Friday’s judgment of the Federal High Court should be enough for those who are yet to accept the reality of a new PDP to beat a retreat.
Senator Ohuabunwa, while hailing the judgment, said it was in line with earlier judgment of the Supreme Court.
He said, as the conscience and the moral compass of the party, the BoT fully respects and accepts the Federal High Court judgment and will continue to respect the rule of law.
The BoT Chairman, in a statement, described any other person parading himself as Chairman of the PDP BoT as criminal impersonator that will be made to face the full wrath of the law soon.
Senator Ohuabunwa urged party leaders to embrace reconciliation and collective responsibility, stressing that the PDP must remain focused on strengthening its internal structures so as to emerge victorious in the 2027 general elections.
He assured that necessary steps will be taken to further strengthen the party’s unity, stability, and preparedness for upcoming electoral engagements.
Oyo APC Slams Makinde Over Alleged Rot In Sensitive Sectors
Meanwhile, the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State has lamented what it described as unacceptable degree of rot in the critical sectors of the state’s economy, urging Governor Seyi Makinde to take urgent actions to fix the problems in the interest of the masses.
This came against the backdrop of a viral video being circulated on social media in which an unidentified man was caught on tape lamenting non-availability of doctors and other medical personnel to attend to his patient at the Adeoyo State Hospital, Yemetu-Ibadan.
In a statement issued on Tuesday and made available to journalists in Ibadan by its Publicity Secretary, Olawale Sadare, Oyo APC decried the state government’s handling of matters relating to the welfare and well-being of the citizens beyond the usual claims of regular payments of salary and pension as well as some cosmetic projects being made possible by the Federal Government’s monthly release of huge allocations and others in form of grants, subvention and interventions.
“Despite the mellifluous access to funds, the Makinde administration has been found wanting in the delivery of good governance in all ramifications. Apart from local government council officials who exist only in titles, most commissioners and other appointees are not visible or productive because Governor Makinde runs a one-man show.
“In the health sector, payment of staff salary and rehabilitation of some Primary Health Center facilities are the only achievements Gov. Makinde can lay claim to as LAUTECH Teaching Hospital in Ogbomoso, Adeoyo State Hospitals in Yemetu and Ring Road, Ibadan as well as the General Hospitals in several towns are in ruins.
“There are no functional test laboratories in Oyo public hospitals while equipment such as Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), X-ray machines are nowhere to be found.
“The viral video of the visibly angry man who (was) seen lamenting non-availability of doctors in Adeoyo State Hospital, Yemetu was a testament to the rot in the system but the most unfortunate thing is that the State Commissioner of Health is not visible anywhere. Moreover, the situation in most of the public primary and secondary schools leaves much to be desired as facilities such as classrooms are in deplorable condition in addition to teachers being put under the pressure of excessive deductions from salary and allowances.
“As a matter of fact, we are concerned about the likelihood of things going worse before the expiration of Gov. Makinde’s maximum tenure because he has not left anyone in doubt of his determination to prioritize personal ambition and politicking to the detriment of the good people of the state who desire quality leadership and value for the huge resources at his disposal,” Sadare added.
