Gov. Umahi: APC Should Go Further And Zone 2023 Presidency To The South-East

OUR REPORTER

Frontline All Progressives Congress presidential aspirant, Engr. David Umahi has asked the party leadership to micro-zone the Presidential ticket to the South East in the interest of equity and justice.

Umahi who was speaking Monday morning on Arise News, commended the decision of some Northern governors and leaders to move the partys Presidential ticket to the South, but he insists they should go beyond that and specify that the South-East should take the ticket.

President Buhari

According to him, the Southern part of the country has three geopolitical zones, so the party should bring more clarity.

He admonished the party not to base their decision on who has the money to buy up delegates or which zone, in their opinion, has invested more in the party.

“They should go beyond making that general statement and be specific on the South-East, that is the best way to give expression to the party’s motto of ‘Justice, Peace and Unity”, he said.

On the rumour that he stepped down for the Senate President, Ahmad Lawan, he described it as fake news.

“At no time did I step down for the Senate President or anybody for that matter”, he said.

He explained that he held a meeting with the Senate President last week on their presidential aspiration but the issue of stepping down did not arise.

An earlier report clarifying the issue said Lawan and Umahi only promised to support each other, should either of them win the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential election primary holding on June 6-8.

Speaking during the visit, the Senate President, Ahmed Lawan, urged Umahi to support him or whoever emerges the presidential candidate as the APC should be united to win the 2023 presidential election.

Umahi

In his response, Governor Umahi said that the Senate President could count on his unalloyed support if he wins the primary election as he will always stand by the party.

Umahi revealed that though the South East is in desperate need to produce a president from the region, he will support whoever is endorsed by President Muhammadu Buhari, in order for the APC to remain a united party.
