Chairman of Taraba State Council of Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Comrade Matthew Eluid Jen, has stressed the importance of unity and sacrificial lifestyle among members to achieve desired goals

Jen stated this while delivering a keynote address on the occasion of a press conference to sensitize members and the general public on activities lined up for NUJ’s Press Week.

The media conference held at the Oyakhire Press Centre Jalingo, the state capital.

Jen lauded the efforts of the Press Week Organizing Committee, saying they have done well, despite lean resources.

He said celebrating the union’s 70th anniversary required every member’s sacrifice and unity.

According to him, activities marking the week-long programme commenced last Friday with Juma’at prayers at Government House Mosque, Jalingo and on Sunday a Thanksgiving service was held at Supreme King’s Church, Jalingo.

“This was followed by a press conference, eye screening, novelty football match and the grand finale slated for Thursday, April 17th where dignitaries from the state would be presented with awards for distinguishing themselves at different fora,” he said.

In a remark, Chairman of the Organizing Committee, Comrade Ado Adamu, added that the purpose of the press conference was to provide an update on the activities so far held and progress already made.

Adamu also commended the leadership of NUJ in the State for coming out with a programme which, he noted, had long been forgotten in the history of the State NUJ -the Press Week.

“Ladies and gentlemen, you will agree with me that it’s being a long time we have not been able to organize what was then an annual ritual for NUJ.

“We want to thank the State Council Chairman of NUJ, Comrade Matthew Eluid Jen for standing firm and insisting that despite challenges, this even must hold.

“We must come along to revive this very important annual event in the calendar of Journalism practice in Nigeria”, he said.
