Amid Insecurity, Alia Woos Investors

Benue State Governor Hyacinth Iormem Alia has revealed the readiness and commitment of his administration to align with the national agenda of economic diversification and inclusive growth.

Speaking on Monday, April 14, while delivering an address at the opening of the Presidential Enabling Business Environment Council (PEBEC) visit held at Government House, Makurdi, the Governor underscored prize strategic partnerships with the private sector and development finance institutions, insisting that the state was ready for bankable, well-structured, and impact-driven investment opportunities.

Governor Alia who emphasized the state’s agricultural potential, noted, among other things, that Benue’s arable lands and waterways could support a robust agribusiness sector.

The occasion which was organised to provide a platform for high-level discussions aimed at unlocking investment opportunities in Benue State, known for its rich agricultural resources, the Governor said, was perfect for investors to explore opportunities in agro-processing facilities for commodities like tomatoes, yams, and ginger.

Alia noted that “if you are looking for partnerships where the soil is fertile and the market is ready, then, you are welcome to Benue State.”

In addition to agriculture, Gov. Alia stressed the need for reliable energy solutions to bolster industrial growth and revealed the ongoing collaborations with the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) to attract renewable energy providers, pointing out that “reliable power is essential for productivity.”

Speaking further, the Governor expressed the state’s readiness to support agro-processing zones and industrial parks with sustainable energy solutions.

While addressing security concerns, the Governor assured potential investors that their investments would be safe.

“We are committed to ensuring a secure environment through strategic security infrastructure,” he stressed.

He revealed that initiatives such as the creation of the Bureau for Homeland Security and the paramilitary force codenamed ‘Anyam Nyor’, were meant to check security threats in the state.

The Governor also informed of the Benue Investment and Promotion Agency (BENIPA) as a key player in facilitating investments and streamlining bureaucratic processes.

He assured that “through BENIPA, investors could expect professional guidance and timely engagement,” dding that Benue is a land of opportunities and all stakeholders should join in the transformative journey.
