Apparently rejecting last minute moves by the authorities to stop the planned protest by staff members of Federal Capital Territory Administration(FCTA), the workers this morning kicked off the protest. From as early as 7.30-8.00am, scores of the workers began massing in front of the gate leading to the entrance of the complex housing the office of the Minister of FCT, Nyesom Wike, at Area 11, Garki, Abuja, the Nigerian capital. A statement released by his Principal Private Secretary, Mustapha Abdullahi Junaid, and his youngest son, Alhaji Muhammadu, confirmed that the death occurred about 3:00 am after a protracted illness which took some months. Yelwata is the scene of the slaughter of over 200 persons --many of them IDPs fleeing bloodshed in other communities --by killer herdsmen about a fortnight ago.
