First Lady Senator Oluremi Tinubu has distributed 10,000 professional kits to midwives in the North-East states of Taraba, Adamawa, Bauchi, Gombe, Borno and Yobe.
The items included scrubs and crocs.
The distribution was flagged off today, April 10, at the gym hall of the Jolly Nyame Stadium, Jalingo, the Taraba State capital.
With slip-resistant outsoles, crocs offer stability on slick hospital floors, ensuring safety while moving quickly between patient rooms.
Made from durable materials like Croslite foam, crocs are built to withstand the demands of a busy medical environment and are easy to clean between shifts.
According to Senator Tinubu, the professional kits, consisting of a total 60,000 branded scrubs and 60,000 pairs of crocs, would be handed to midwives nationwide.
“The North-East zone is receiving 10,000 scrubs and 10,000 pairs of crocs,” she said.
The First Lady described the gesture as part of the Renewed Hope Initiatives (RHI) health programme of the Federal Government.
Tinubu added that she was in the North-East, Taraba in particular, to equip and encourage midwives for “the sensitive, great and tedious work they have been doing to save lives.”
She added: “We believe if they are encouraged, they will put more efforts and we will have less maternal and infant mortality.”
Further commending the efforts of the midwives and healthcare workers across the country, Mrs. Tinubu maintained that the importance of economic empowerment, particularly for women, must not be taken for granted, saying they do a lot of work in improving maternal and child health in Nigeria.
“The demands of the health profession require not only skills and compassion, but also the right tools and kits to encourage our midwives as they serve others,” she stressed.
Emphasizing that the Renewed Hope Initiative of President Bola Tinubu has been working tirelessly to improve the lives of families across the country through targeted interventions, the First Lady noted that RHI recognizes the importance of supporting vulnerable populations, particularly women and children.
She also donated the sum of N50,000 describing it as a grant for 1,000 petty traders in the State.
Mrs Tinubu, while appreciating the contributions of the Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Professor Mohammed Ali Pate, and the Executive Director/CEO of National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA), Dr. Muyi Aina, for their dedicated focus on improving healthcare delivery, urged them not to relent in discharging their duties of saving and improving the lives of the citizenry.
In a remark, Taraba State Governor, Dr Agbu Kefas, while welcoming the President’s wife and her team to the State, expressed joy, saying the state was honoured to be chosen for what he described as “this intervention.”
Governor Kefas said life is full of difficulties and health challenges among the citizenry but through interventions like that of RHI, the trauma would be less.
