Akande Lied, I Know Nothing About Bola Ige’s Death -Ladoja

Accused of concealing some vital information on the 2001 murder of then-serving Minister of Justice and Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF), Chief Bola Ige, in Ibadan, Oyo State capital, governor of the state at the time, Chief Rashidi Ladoja, has denied the accusation.

The allegation was fired by former governor of Osun State, Chief Bisi Akande, who is a stalwart of the now-ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the country. Akande was the late Ige’s political ally.

But, Ladoja said Akande lied against him.

Ladoja was a staunch member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) at the time Chief Ige was murdered.

The former Oyo governor, who is now a monarch and Otun Olubadan of Ibadanland, spoke on Chief Akande’s allegations during an interactive session with journalists at his Bodija, Ibadan residence on Monday, February 3, declaring that Akande allegedly lied against him.

Chief Akande, a leader of the then Alliance for Democracy (AD) from where Ige came to serve the then PDP Federal Government of President Olusegun Obasanjo, had claimed that Ladoja had some hidden information about Ige’s death.

He was speaking during an interview apparently to mark his birthday last week.

But addressing journalists, Ladoja insisted that Akande lied against him.

The former governor challenged Chief Akande to go public with details of any information he had over Ige’s death.

His words: “I don’t have any hidden knowledge about the death of Chief Bola Ige. I had no problem with Bola Ige.

“Maybe Chief Bisi Akande wants to sell his book; I don’t know. There is no correlation between my election and the death of Ige.

“He should come out and tell the public, instead of maligning my image. But, all options are open. As Otun Olubadan, I am no more a politician.”

Chief Ige was shot to death in his Bodija, Ibadan home by still unknown persons on December 23. He had returned to Ibadan from Abuja on a working visit ahead of Christmas.
