*LG Chairmen Vow Financial Discipline, Defend 2026 Budget Proposals

Sokoto State Government has reiterated its commitment to promoting intellectual growth, strengthening legal systems, and building resilient institutions as part of its development agenda.
Governor Ahmed Aliyu Sokoto made the fresh bow during the presentation of a book titled Military Law in Nigeria: A Quick Reference Guide to Practice and Procedure.
The book was published in honour of Muhammad Bello Goronyo and edited by Professor Ibrahim Abdullahi, SAN. The event took place at the Army Command Mess and Suites.
Represented by his Deputy, Idris Mohammed Gobir, the governor said the initiative aligns with his administration’s belief in the power of education, knowledge, and the rule of law as key drivers of sustainable development.
He called on stakeholders, including legal practitioners, security agencies, and academic institutions, to make effective use of the publication, describing it as both timely and significant.
According to him, the book provides a vital legal framework that governs discipline, accountability, and the protection of rights within the Armed Forces, while also ensuring compliance with democratic principles.
Governor Aliyu further described the publication as a valuable contribution to legal scholarship in Nigeria, noting that it reflects the growing need for structured legal references in specialised fields.
He also paid tribute to Barrister Goronyo, describing him as a man of integrity whose life exemplifies dedication and excellence in public service.
Chairman of the occasion and Senator representing Sokoto Central Senatorial District, Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko, expressed gratitude to the organisers and contributors for their roles in ensuring the success of the event.
In his review, Professor Ahmad Adamu of the Nigerian Defence Academy revealed that the book comprises 300 pages divided into eight chapters, describing it as a vital resource for advancing legal practice in Nigeria.
Delivering a vote of thanks, Barrister Goronyo expressed appreciation to Senator Wamakko for his mentorship and dedication to public service.
He also lauded Gov. Aliyu for his efforts in transforming Sokoto State across various sectors.
The event drew prominent figures from the legal, academic, and political communities, underscoring the importance of knowledge sharing and institutional development in national progress.
LG Chairmen Restate Commitment To Fiscal Discipline
Meanwhile, Local Government Chairmen in Sokoto State have reaffirmed their commitment to fiscal discipline, transparency, and grassroots development as they appeared before the State House of Assembly Committee on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs to defend their proposed 2026 budget estimates.
The budget defence exercise, in line with the Assembly’s constitutional mandate, is aimed at ensuring accountability and efficient utilization of public resources across Local Government Councils in the state.
Leading the presentations, Chairman of Tangaza Local Government Area, Salihu Bashar Kalanjeni, proposed a budget of ₦7.5 billion for the 2026 fiscal year.
He emphasized the importance of human capital development and prudent financial management in achieving effective implementation of the budget.
Kalanjeni also highlighted women and youth empowerment as key priorities, describing them as critical drivers of sustainable development.
Similarly, the Chairman of Silame Local Government Area, Alhaji Abubakar Muhammad Gitta Rana, presented a proposed budget of ₦7.5 billion.
He assured lawmakers of the council’s commitment to strengthening security while maintaining accountability and due process in executing developmental and legacy projects.
Also appearing before the Committee, the Chairman of Dange Shuni Local Government Area, Alhaji Aminu Magaji Bodai, proposed a budget of ₦5.5 billion for the 2026 fiscal year,
noting that the council’s spending priorities would align with the state government’s nine-point agenda, with a focus on delivering impactful projects and improving the standard of living of the people.
The presentations formed part of ongoing legislative oversight to ensure that public funds are effectively managed and directed towards meaningful development at the grassroots level.
