Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG), Zone 4, Makurdi, Dr. Zachariah Fera Achinyan, has assured that the police would continue to have strong collaboration with journalists for enhanced performance of their official duties.
Speaking in his office during a courtesy call by a group of journalists under the auspices of Forum of Investigative Journalists in Makurdi, the Benue State capital, the AIG noted that the police have been benefiting from journalists and expressed the belief that with strong collaboration, they would benefit more.
Achinyan, who noted that journalists were society’s watchdogs, added that they were instrumental to active performance of the police, pointing out that journalists also make the police to sit up in the maintenance of law and order.
The 43rd AIG in charge of Zone 4 added that the police get feedback from the public through journalists even as they also help the police as well as other public office holders to be accountable, insisting that journalists occupy a vital position in society.
Leader of the forum, Mr. Tamenor Kwaghzer, appealed to the AIG for a good working relationship as he believed that with collaboration, journalists would be able to perform their duties creditably for the betterment of society.
The forum leader appreciated the AIG for the work he has been doing in the zone, particularly in the maintenance of law and order, noting that without the police, journalists would not succeed.
