Sokoto State Government has denied reports that 18 students of Gamji College of Health Technology, Sokoto, were abducted by suspected terrorists while travelling to Oyo State.
The government described the report, published by an online newspaper (not People&Politics) as false and urged the public to disregard it.
In a statement signed by the Director General, Media and Publicity, Government House, Sokoto, Abubakar Bawa, the government said no student of the private health institution was abducted.
According to the statement, the person abducted was Halima Sokeni, a former student of Gamji College of Nursing Sciences, More Area, Sokoto State.
Sokeni, who graduated from the institution as a midwife in September 2026, was reportedly travelling home on Thursday, 1 October, when she and other passengers were abducted in Niger State.
The government said the incident had no connection with the alleged abduction of 18 students of Gamji College of Health Technology.
It therefore urged journalists and media organisations to verify information before publication, stressing that unverified reports could mislead the public and create unnecessary alarm.
The government also called on media practitioners to uphold the ethics and professional standards of journalism in reporting security-related incidents.
