Kefas Appoints Kara Taraba’s New Head Of Service

Seeking to revitalize the civil service, Governor Agbu Kefas of Taraba State has appointed a new Head of Service (HOS).

He is Dr. Hamidu Ahmed Kara, who hails from Gembu, headquarters of Sardauna Local Government Area (LGA) of the North-Eastern State.

These were contained in a press release signed and issued to journalists in Jalingo, the state capital, by Secretary to the Government of the State (SGS), Barrister (Chief) Gebon Timothy Kataps.

According to the statement, Dr. Kara’s appointment followed what was described as the statutory retirement of the former Head of Civil Service, Mr. Paul Maigida Tino, on Monday, February 3, 2025.

The new HOS, the statement said, was born on August 31, 1968 in Gembu.

He began his early education at Nurul-Ulum Primary School, Gembu from 1974- 1980,then attended Government Secondary School, Gembu from 1980- 1985, after which he proceeded to the College of Preliminary
Studies, Yola, from 1985- 1987 and made the GCE Science.

Kara later gained admission into University of Maiduguri (UNIMAID) and graduated in 1995 with the covered Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS), after which he did the mandatory year-long housemanship, at University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital.

He was mobilized for the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) and posted to St. Luke’s Hospital, Anua, Akwa Ibom State in 1996-1997.

“On completion of the National Service, he practiced in Fletcher Memorial Catholic Hospital Ikot-Abasi for six (6) months and got employed In the Mobil
Clinic Eket in 1997″, the statement said.

Due to family demand, he relocated to Taraba State and got employed in the State Specialist Hospital (now Federal Medical Centre, Jalingo) for one year and later got transferred to head the Government House Clinic Jalingo, where he was appointed Physician to the Governor from 1999 – 2007, and again, Physician to the Governor 2007- 2015.

Dr. Kara was later transferred to the State Health Services Management Board as Chief Medical Officer and then to the State Ministry of Health as Director, Hospital Services in 2016.

He was appointed Permanent Secretary in 2022 and assigned to the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the State (SGS) in charge of Home Affairs and Special Services Department and later posted to Health Services Management Board as Permanent Secretary.

“On the 6th of December, 2024, Dr. Kara was assigned to supervise the new Ministry of Tertiary Education as Supervising Permanent Secretary, the positions he held until his present appointment as the Head of Service.

“Dr Hamidu Ahmed Kara is married with three (3) wives and nine (9) children,” it said.
