No Regrets Over Fuel Subsidy Removal -Tinubu

Though his action has plunged millions of Nigerians into unbearable hardship, spurring hunger and poverty in the land, President Bola Tinubu declared on Monday that he has no regrets about removing fuel subsidy.

He reaffirmed the position while speaking during his first presidential media chat, in Lagos State.

Tinubu contended that removing the subsidy was the only way to the nation’s prosperity, insisting that the decision was made to secure a better future for the future generations.

Peopleandpolitics.net recalls that Tinubu terminated fuel subsidy on May 29, 2023 during his Inauguration.

Dwelling on the recent stampedes in Abuja, Oyo, and Anambra states which claimed scores of lives, some during events where food items were being distributed to hungry Nigerians, the president pointed to grave errors on the part of the organisers as cause of the unfortunate events.

He said while the organisers of the food distribution had good intentions, the events triggered the loss of lives.

Tinubu canvassed a more organised and effective food distribution system.

He said: “If you know you don’t have enough to give, do not attempt to publicise it. Every society has its share of angry people. There are food banks, but unfortunately, the stampedes occurred. It is a very grave error on the part of the organisers.”
