Fresh faces may be coming into the Benue State Executive Council (Exco) as Governor Hyacinth Alia submitted names of six nominees to the State House of Assembly for consideration and possible confirmation as members of the state’s highest decision-making organ.
One woman made the list.
The names of the nominees were contained in a letter dated 18 August, 2026, transmitted by the governor to Speaker of the State Assembly, Rt. Hon. Alfred Aondoaver Emberga.
The nominees comprised those being proposed to replace outgoing members of the Council as well as new ones to fill existing vacancies.
In the letter, Gov. Alia disclosed that the move was intended to strengthen the Exco and inject additional expertise and capacity into the administration –which is in its first term in office.
The letter named the nominees as Hon. Kuma Aii Yenge; Hon. Roy Ashirga Terna; Hon. Angwa Egbe Monday; Hon. Elizabeth Onma Ogenyi; Hon. Solomon Iorpev and Hon. Nick Eworo.
As of press time, not much was known of many of the nominees, except Hon.Iorpev who, before the nomination, was Technical Adviser (TS), Media and Strategic Communications, to the governor. Before his appointment as TA, Iorpev was working with Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN).
With his Journalism and Communication background and cognate experience, watchers of governance in the state believe Iorpev may be named Commissioner for Information –if he scales the Assembly hurdle.
Governor Alia noted that he undertook the nominations in furtherance of his constitutional powers pursuant to Section 192 of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended).
Alia requested the Assembly to give the nominees prompt and favourable consideration in accordance with the legislature’s constitutional responsibility.
