*Obidient Movement Hails As ‘Courageous’ Obi, Kwankwaso’s Defection

Millions of supporters of former governor of Kano State, Engr. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, as well as well-meaning Nigerians have been enjoined to steer their political ships to dock in the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC).

Engr. Kwankwaso reached out to the supporters and other Nigerians in a post on his official X handle today.

The call followed his recent resignation from the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to NDC over the protracted leadership tussle in the former.

Kwankwaso, who is seeking a joint presidential ticket with former Anambra State Governor, Peter Obi, to contest the 2027 election, said they were determined to provide a credible platform for Nigerians.

His post read: “We are determined to provide our people with a credible platform where they can thrive and realise their full potential.

“I therefore call on all our dedicated supporters and well-meaning Nigerians to join the NDC and stand with us in this renewed fight for good governance and true democracy.”

As if anticipating Kwankwaso’s call, two House of Representatives members from Kano State, Umar Datti and Sani Wakili yesterday resigned from the ADC ahead of their defection to the NDC.

According to insiders, more members of the ADC will dump the party this week ahead of a deadline by Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for conclusion of political party submissions and various processes.

Obidient Movement Hails As ‘Courageous’ Obi, Kwankwaso’s Defection

Meanwhile, National Coordinator of Obidient Movement, Yunusa Tanko, today, described the defection of Obi and Kwankwaso to the NDC as a courageous step.

Tanko explained that the defection was necessitated by the toxic political environment in ADC.

Speaking with Arise TV , Tanko contended that the legal uncertainties and INEC’s tight timelines made their candidacy impossible, forcing a move to preserve democracy and opposition strength.

His words: “There is a toxic situation in our political system, but it was not directed at the ADC. So for Peter Obi and Engineer Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso and others, they have taken a courageous step that needs to be applauded so that Nigerian democracy will not die. This is the most important part of our current situation.

“As a layman, let’s look at the calculation: Today (Monday) is the 4th of May. The window closes for submissions and all other processes in the political system on the 10th of May.

“Now, from the 4th of May to the 10th of May, you have only five days –from Monday the 4th to Friday the 8th. The 9th and 10th are weekends.

“This means you have only five days to adjudicate within the Federal High Court; winning or losing, the other person will take you to the Appeal Court; winning or losing, you then go back to the Supreme Court. Within five days! It is practically impossible.

“So you know it’s a trap for the candidacy of His Excellency Mr. Peter Obi and even the ADC themselves. That is why myself and all other ‘Obidients’ will wholeheartedly support His Excellency Mr. Peter Obi, Engineer Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, and others to quickly find an exit point in order to defend our democracy.”
