PDP’s Delta Gov Defects To APC

Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State, on Wednesday, April 23, dumped the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the All Progressives Congress (APC), per a report this evening in Freedomonline.

The online medium said it “learned that Oborevwori’s decision was made following extensive consultations with political stakeholders.

“Chief of Staff to the Governor, Sir Festus Ahon, has confirmed the defection.”

The development came in the wake of several denials by officials of the State Government as well as close aides of the governor.

His defection ends PDP’s unbroken rule in the oil-rich South-South or Niger Delta State since 1999.

It also brings to three the number of South-South States now controlled by APC, the others being Cross River and Edo, as President Bola Tinubu tightens his plans to increase his potential voter base and get re-elected in 2027 amid stiff opposition from some prominent politicians from the vote-rich North-West who want him out in the next election cycle.

The remaining three South-South States are under the PDP.
