Enugu State Boxing Association has expressed optimism that its boxers can compete favourably in any major championship.

Chairperson of the association, Mrs Amaka Ogbu, disclosed this during a maiden boxing show tagged ‘Old Skool Boxing Extravaganza’ at Independence Layout, Enugu.

Despite the heavy downpour, the show, which was organized in memory of the late Chief Osondu Ogbu who was a passionate boxing lover, an administrator and businessman, witnessed a high intensity, electrifying and competitive atmosphere.

According to her, the event lived up to expectation, describing the level of boxing as top notch and one that can match those in other states.

Mrs Ogbu stressed that the competition would not be a one-off event, reassuring that the association will continue to put in a lot of work so as to give the boxers the platform to express themselves.

Vice Chairman of the association, David Ebubechukwu Nwobodo, who also spoke, said that the boxers have the potentials to go places, noting that sustainability and sponsorship are paramount in the development of the game.

In some of the results, Enugu’s Shedrack put up a scintillating performance against Emmanuel (Imo) winning via a TKO in the 7Okg class, while the referee had to stop the contest between Etibong (Ebonyi State) and Chisom (Imo) as a result of injury sustained by the former.
