Teachers, nurses, drivers, artisans, traders, civil servants, students, and ordinary Nigerians in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) have thrown their weight behind President Bola Tinubu, saying they will vote for him on 16 January, 2027 to continue in office.

This was disclosed this afternoon by FCT chapter Coordinator of Working People United (WoPU), Comrade Istiphanus Fadawa. Sitting close to him was National General Secretary of the body, Comrade (Hon.) Sunday Oladapo Moses.

They made the declaration at a media briefing held at the Petroleum Tanker Drivers Association (PTD) office in Utako, Abuja.

PTD is an arm of National Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG), an affiliate of Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC).

Comrade Fadawa said the decision to back Tinubu was not taken “lightly”, pointing out that “we took it because we have seen leadership, courage, and a clear vision for a better Nigeria.”

Listing the accomplishments they believed Tinubu has made in his almost four years as President, the Coordinator said: “This President has shown uncommon love and understanding for civil servants, for the Nigeria Labour Congress, the Trade Union Congress, and all other relevant stakeholders that fall under the working class in Nigeria.

“He listened when others would have ignored. He negotiated when others would have imposed.

“He approved wage awards and a new national minimum wage because he understands that the civil servant in Garki, the teacher in Kuje, the nurse in Wuse General Hospital, and the labourer in Jabi are the engine of this nation.

“For the first time in many years, working people feel seen, heard, and respected at the highest level of government.

“His open-door policy to labour, his respect for dialogue over confrontation, and his genuine commitment to improving the welfare and dignity of workers is worthy of commendation,” the Coordinator stressed.

Comrade Fadawa said the achievements were the reasons WoPU was formed, adding that its members therefore felt compelled to reciprocate the gesture by agreeing unanimously to queue behind Tinubu and no other political party candidate in the 2027 presidential poll.

His words: “We came together as working people — civil servants, organized labour, artisans, traders, drivers, and private sector workers — to say thank you, to protect the interests of workers, and to ensure that a President who has stood by workers gets the full support of workers for his re-election in 2027.

“Our formation is organic. It is the workers themselves actively deciding to stand with a leader who stood with them.”

Announcing their collaboration with the City Boy Movement, a political group linked to Tinubu’s son, Seyi, WoPU revealed that it was the group which provided them with what he described as “valuable information, facts, and good reasons why President Bola Ahmed Tinubu must be supported for a second term. Their grassroots mobilization, their clarity of message, and their unwavering commitment to Renewed Hope has inspired us and strengthened our own resolve.”

Furthermore, WoPu aligned itself with Minister of Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Barrister Nyesom Wike, saying his visible achievements as Tinubu’s delegated official in the nation’s capital, was, to them, proof that the President has the vital interest of FCT residents at heart.

“In the FCT today, we see what purposeful leadership can do. From massive road constructions and rehabilitation across AMAC, Bwari, Gwagwalada, Kuje, Abaji and Kwali, to the renewal of the Abuja city centre, streetlights, bridges, school renovations, and water projects — the FCT is working again.

“These are not just projects; they are jobs for our members, they are ease of movement for our drivers, they are business for our traders, and they are renewed pride for residents.

“That transformation in the FCT is a direct reflection of Mr. President’s vision and his choice of a performing Minister in Chief Wike. It is proof that Renewed Hope is not theory — it is visible in our streets, in our markets, in our Area Councils.

“That is why our collaboration with the City Boy Movement FCT Chapter is strategic,” Fadawa emphasized.

WoPU thumbed up Tinubu for taking the fuel subsidy and exchange rate bulls by the horn and chided past governments for being lily-livered over the issues which, to the group, should have been tackled before now to unlock resources necessary for national development.

Fadawa noted: “For too long, Nigeria was living on borrowed time. Previous governments were afraid to take the hard decisions because they wanted to be popular.

“President Tinubu came in and did what was necessary — to remove fuel subsidy, unify the exchange rate, and reform our economy. Yes, it was painful at first.

“Any serious surgery is painful. But today, we are beginning to see the results: our economy is stabilizing, our revenue is growing, and Nigeria is no longer borrowing to pay salaries and service debt.

“A true leader does not run away from difficult reforms. President Tinubu stayed and faced them.”

Sector by sector, the group listed President Tinubu’s key achievements, thus: “On Wages and Welfare: This administration increased the national minimum wage, approved wage awards, and has continued to push for better pay for workers.

“On Infrastructure: From the Abuja-Kaduna-Kano highway, to the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway, to new roads, bridges, and rail lines across the country, jobs are being created and our economy is opening up.

“On Education and Health: Student Loans through NELFUND have given thousands of children of poor workers the chance to go to university. Primary healthcare centres are being revived. That is real hope for ordinary families.

“On Agriculture and Food Security: With massive investment in farming, mechanization, and food production, we believe the cost of food will continue to come down for the common man.

“On Youth and Jobs: From tech hubs, to skill acquisition, to credit schemes for young entrepreneurs, this government is investing in the future of Nigerian youth.”

The group therefore, canvassed a second term for the President, insisting that he “needs a second term to finish the work he has started — to complete the reforms, to bring down inflation fully, to make the Naira stronger, and to ensure that the benefits of reform reach every market woman in Gwagwalada, every teacher in Bwari, every driver in AMAC, and every farmer in Abaji.”

They vowed to do everything possible to ensure he returns to the nation’s top seat in Aso Rock.
