Ahead of 2027, political horse trading, alliances and amalgamations are gathering momentum as politicians jostle for necessary configurations that would hand them the leverage needed to influence the electorates that they are the best candidates to deliver democracy dividends.

In Oyo State, the opposition African Democratic Congress (ADC) governorship candidate, Olooye Adegboyega Taofeek Adegoke, reportedly, on Thursday, had a closed-door meeting with a chieftain of the ruling Allied Peoples Movement (APM) and grassroots politician, Alhaji Abdul-Rasheed Adebisi Olopoeyan, at the latter’s Basorun, Ibadan residence.

The disclosure emerged today.

People&Politics learnt that Olooye Adegoke was accompanied to the meeting by the ADC Deputy National Women Leader (South-West), Alhaja Kafilat Omolabake Olayiwola, popularly known as Aje-Iya.

Though the meeting was held behind closed-door and both Olopoeyan and Adegoke did not disclose the issues discussed with journalists, it was gathered that the parley was not unconnected with the 2027 governorship race in the Pace-Setter State.

Both Olopoeyan and Adegoke were political allies in the days of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), before they moved to the APM and ADC respectively.

Therefore, moves towards a mutually beneficial working relationship cannot be over-emphasized.

It could be recalled that the smooth relationship between Alhaji Olopoeyan and the Oyo State governor and APM presidential candidate, Engr. Seyi Makinde, recently soured over dispute on emergence of APM candidates for the December 2026 Local Government (LG) elections.

People&Politics gathered that both Alhaji Olopoeyan and Makinde had parallel candidates ahead of the LG poll which would herald the 2027 general elections.
