*Unofficial Reports Claim Adeleke Leading By About 66,000 Votes
Close public scrutiny, living up to its promise of electoral transparency and other factors have been at play in Osun State as Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has uploaded 95.51 per cent of expected results from yesterday’s governorship poll to its Result Viewing portal, with collation in its final stages, as of press time.
On the INEC Results Viewing (iRev) Portal, as of 1:07:02 am on Sunday, 16 August, a total 3,594 polling unit (PU) results had been uploaded out of an expected 3,763.
Data from the portal showed the last upload was recorded at 1:07:02 am on Sunday from PU 29/03/05/008 as collation continued across the state’s 30 Local Government Areas (LGAs).
Unofficial reports claimed second term-seeking Governor Ademola Adeleke was leading by about 66,000 votes,but this could not be verified yet.
Governor Adeleke of the Accord Party is seeking re-election and faces strong challenge from Bola Oyebamiji of the All Progressives Congress (APC), and Najeem Salaam of African Democratic Congress (ADC).
The poll is being closely monitored by voters and election observers on the IReV platform, which INEC introduced to enhance transparency in result collation by allowing PU-level results to be viewed in real time.
The Commission’s Result Stats window on the portal showed the figures updating steadily as fresh uploads arrived from PUs, with the platform allowing users to refresh the page for the latest numbers.
INEC commenced the uploading of the results shortly after Afrobeats singer, David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, who is nephew of Gov. Adeleke, raised the alarm over the delay.
Davido had earlier called on INEC to provide timely updates and ensure transparency in the conduct and collation of the election results.
In a series of posts on his X account on Saturday, the singer questioned why no result had been uploaded to the IReV portal as of 2:33 p.m.
One post read: “INEC, it is now 2:33 p.m., yet no result has been uploaded to the IReV portal. What is the delay? Nigerians deserve transparency and timely updates.”
He also urged voters to remain at their PUs until officials uploaded their results to the portal.
“Make sure your polling unit results are uploaded on IReV in your presence and make sure the figures are entered on eEC8A (electronic EC8A). We will follow our votes bumper to bumper!” Davido said.
The IReV portal allows voters and other stakeholders to view PU results uploaded by INEC after voting and counting at the various PUs.
