*Honours Past Officers
In an historic event that paid tribute to the prestigious school’s enduring legacy of excellence, Government Secondary School (GSS), Bwari, an institution under the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Secondary Education Board (SEB), marked its 45th anniversary recently.
The event featured week-long colourful activities which,in an atmosphere of conviviality, brought together past and present staff members, alumni, students, and well-wishers.
In her welcome address, the Director/Principal of the school, Mrs Nkoli Okedo, described the 45th edition as a milestone and celebration of the school’s enduring legacy of excellence, discipline, and character development since its establishment.
She noted that the institution has grown into a citadel of learning, consistently producing generations of outstanding students who have made meaningful contributions to society.
Mrs Okedo commended the Minister of FCT, Barr. Nyesom Wike for the ongoing massive renovations in the school and also expressed appreciation to FCT’s Education Secretariat management led by Dr Danlami Hayyo, for his commitment to the advancement of education in the nation’s capital.
She thanked the key stakeholders, including the alumni, staff, parents, and partners, for their sustained support and contributions to the school’s growth.
Mrs Okedo further urged students to remain focused and uphold the institution’s values, while calling for continued collaboration towards critical developmental projects such as provision of a school bus, smart boards, and a functional e-library to enhance teaching and learning.
Okedo reaffirmed the school’s commitment to continue to build on its legacy for future generations.
Speaker after speaker at the event commended the foresight of the school’s founding fathers and acknowledged the roles played by past administrators in laying a solid foundation for the institution.
They noted that GSS Bwari has, over the years, distinguished itself in academics, character formation, and extracurricular activities and commended the Director/ Principal for remembering their services long after their exit.
The students also participated actively in the celebration through cultural and calIenstinic displays, drama presentations, exhibitions of entrepreneurial projects, and musical performances to add colour and vibrancy to the occasion.
On their part, alumni of the school from different parts of the country expressed pride at being associated with the institution and pledged continued support towards its development.
The highlight of the celebration was the honour bestowed on past officers including former principals, vice principals, and senior staff members who were recognised for their dedication and valuable contributions to the school’s progress; unveiling of the school magazine and cutting of the anniversary cake.
Earlier, the celebration, which was held within the school premises, kicked off
with thanksgiving, followed by community medical outreach,visits to charity homes, anniversary lecture/symposium, interactive alumni mentorship sessions, quiz competitions, football match, launch of alumni support initiative, culminating in a grand finale featuring awards presentation.
Among dignitaries in attendance were Director/Secretary, SEB, Hajia Fatima Baba Gambo; Director, School Services,FCT Universal Basic Education Board (UBEB), Mr Victor Orifah; president, Annual Conference of Principals of Secondary Schools (ANCOPSS), Dr Jiya Mohammed, and stakeholders from various walks of life.
