
The embattled Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Hon Lasbat Mojisola Meranda has resigned from her post after serving 49 days in office.
Other principal officers of the Assembly, including the Chief Whip and his Deputy, the Majority Leader and his Deputy also resigned.
A new set of leaders where also elected by voice votes after the resignation.
Meranda, in her resignation speech, appreciated her colleagues for their gallantry. She said her resignation was to allow for peace in the tumultuous Assembly where the impeached Speaker Mudashiru Obasa was laying hold to the office.
The 44 year-old former Speaker has been the lawmaker representing Apapa 1 constituency since June 2015. She was sworn in as Speaker on 13 January 2025 following the impeachment of Mudashiru Obasa over allegations of gross misconduct and abuse of office.
