President of Middle Belt Forum (MBF), Dr Bitrus Pogu, has described the Middle Belt region as Nigeria’s economic strength and melting hub, urging unity among its component parts to reap benefits.
He stressed that only unity, especially of the youth of the region’s 15 states, can enable them tap into the economy for development.
Pogu took the position in Abuja, the nation’s capital, when he received a delegation of United Middle Belt Youths Movement (UMBYM) led by its leader, Capt. Brent Kane, and the acting National President of Indigenous Ethnic Youth Leaders of Nigeria (IEYLN), Comrade Augustine Gyobe.
According to Pogu, the Middle Belt has remained behind in development and growth in Nigeria, saying this was “because the youth are not united for a common goal.”
The Middle Belt leader announced to the delegation that Capt. Kane has been inaugurated as MBF’s youth leader and thus becomes a member of the body’s National Executive Committee (NEC).
In their remarks during the visit, Kane, UMBYM Secretary Prince Inalegwu John, alongside Gyobe assured youths of the region of stronger unity.
Leveraging the adage of ‘united we stand instead of division’, they explained that this is the reason they agreed to come together under UMBYM umbrella to forge ahead as one body.
Recall that leaders of various youth groups in the Middle Belt gathered in Akwanga, Nasarawa State, few days ago at the instance of Comrade Gyobe and resolved to unite.
More fillip came for their resolve as they received royal blessings from the Chun Mada, HRH Samson Gamu Yare, who also prayed for the growth and betterment of the region.
