Wike And The Naval Officer

Wike And The Naval Officer

BY ABRAHAM OGBODO It is not right to say that Nyesom Wike is in the news again. He is, always. The big deal is when the Minister, who was also Governor of Rivers State for eight years, manages to stop boiling over and strike a comportment that does not attract news hunters. Last Tuesday, Wike as FCT Minister, went to recover a swath of land which acquisition did not, according to him, follow the due process laid down by the authorities of the FCT. There are ways to own land in Nigeria. The Supreme Court said so in Idundun V…

World Cup 2026: Ronaldo Sees Red In Portugal Defeat, France Qualify, Haaland’s Norway On Song (SEE OTHER RESULTS FROM EUROPEAN QUALIFYING GAMES)

Cristiano Ronaldo was sent off on Thursday, 13 November, as Troy Parrott fired the Republic of Ireland to a sensational 2-0 victory against Portugal to set up a qualifying showdown with Hungary. The 40-year-old Portugal captain was dismissed for elbowing defender Dara O’Shea off the ball with a little more than 30 minutes remaining at the Aviva Stadium, but Heimir Hallgrímsson’s men were already well on their way to a win over the side ranked fifth in the world. AZ Alkmaar striker Parrott’s first-half double ultimately did the damage, but it was a collective performance of true character which laid…

Another perspective has emerged from the confrontation between Minister of Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Nyesom Wike, and a military team led by Navy Lieutenant A. Yerima on Tuesday over access to a piece of land in Abuja, the nation's capital. Recall that the armed soldiers flatly denied the Minister access to the land, now known to be owned by a retired Naval chief, Vice Admiral Auwal Zubair Gambo. Yerima insisted that, in not letting the Minister access, he, a serving officer, was acting on "orders from above." However, at a media briefing on Thursday, Wike disclosed that the Yerima-led military guards…

Ned Nwoko: An Irresponsible Old Man

Ned Nwoko: An Irresponsible Old Man

By IKECHUKWU AMAECHI Let me state from the onset that calling Senator Ned Nwoko an irresponsible old man is not an insult. It is a statement of fact. Born on December 21, 1960, he will be 65 years next month. Some people believe that is his political age, which means he could be older. But let us stay with what we know. Even in countries like Hong Kong, Republic of San Marino, and the Principality of Monaco, where life expectancy exceeds 85 years, as a convention, a person over 65 years is referred to as elderly. It is even more so in…
