Chief of Staff (CoS) to Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, Honourable Segun Ogunwuyi, has resigned from the government.
His replacement was announced by the state government on Monday (yesterday).
Ogunwuyi, in his resignation letter, dated 12 October, 2026, said the resignation took effect from the date on his letter.
“I respectfully write to resign my appointment as Chief of Staff to the governor of Oyo State, with effect from today, 12th October, 2026.
“Serving the government and the good people of Oyo State has been a great honour. It has been deeply fulfilling to be part of the exceptional team that has worked relentlessly to deliver the remarkable achievements of this administration.
“I remain immensely proud of what we have collectively accomplished in advancing the growth, development and prosperity of our dear state.
“As I take this decision, I do so with profound gratitude for the opportunity to serve, with confidence in the continued progress of Oyo State.
“Please, Your Excellency, accept the assurances of my highest esteem and unwavering loyalty to Oyo State and the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” the letter read.
Ogunwuyi, who is a former House of Assembly and House of Representatives lawmaker, is one of the aides of Gov. Makinde who have resigned their appointments in the last two months.
However, Makinde swiftly appointed Bashorun Akinwale Akinwole (also known as Wolekanle) as his new CoS.
According to a statement signed by his Special Adviser on Media, Dr. Sulaimon Olanrewaju, on Monday, the governor also approved the appointment of Mrs. Aderonke Adedayo as Director-General of the Due Process Office.
Olanrewaju said the appointments were announced in letters signed by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Professor Musibau Babatunde.
Bashorun Akinwole, a grassroots politician, previously served as Chairman of Oyo State Local Government Service Commission.
Mrs. Adedayo, who currently serves as Special Adviser on General Intervention and Donor Agencies, will combine her existing role with her new responsibilities.
The appointments, he said, take immediate effect.
“Governor Makinde congratulated the appointees and urged them to carry out their duties with loyalty, commitment, and dedication to the service of Oyo State,” he said.
Group Makes Unsubstantiated Claims Against Makinde
Meanwhile, a group, the Save Oyo Movement (SOM) has accused Gov. Makinde of deploying the state’s resources to fund the presidential campaign of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar so as to divide the votes of President Bola Tinubu.
The accusation could not be verified, especially as Abubakar, popularly known nationwide simply as Atiku, is believed to be one of Nigeria’s wealthiest men neither is there a recent record of him soliciting financial assistance to bolster his campaign.
In the last two weeks, over $3 million (about N4 billion) was delivered to Atiku in cash, the group alleged, without providing proof to support the claim.
In a statement signed by its Coordinator, Comrade Akeem Oladiti, on Sunday, the group alleged that Gov. Makinde was promised the position of Chief of Staff (Cos) by Atiku, further alleging that funds were being channeled to the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential candidate by the Oyo State governor through an Abuja-based Bureau De Change operator and an unidentified notable member of ADC from Ondo State.
The group chided Gov. Makinde for allegedly “carrying his anger over the rejection of his ministerial nominee, Bimbo Adekanmbi, to the extreme level of wasting the state’s resources on Atiku Abubakar, just to get at President Tinubu.”
Recall that Makinde confirmed that he nominated the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) governorship candidate in Oyo State, Adekanmbi, for the state’s ministerial slot, but the President rejected his nominee and appointed Adebayo Adelabu instead.
