Save Nigeria Group USA Salutes Compatriots Over 66th Independence Day Anniversary

By our reporter

Save Nigeria Group USA has extended its “warmest Independence Day greetings” to Nigerians at home and across the Diaspora as the country celebrates her 66th anniversary today.

The group especially greeted those it described as the vibrant Nigerian-American community on the occasion.

In a statement titled ‘Happy 66th Independence Day Nigeria’, a copy of which was made available to People&Politics, Save Nigeria Group USA, through the group’s theme, titled ‘Our History, Today, And The Future’, reflected on the African demographic giant’s national journey.

It traced the country’s history from the cessation of British colonial rule on 1 October, 1960, to date, noting that while some achievements had been notched up in the face of storms, there was optimism that a lot more can be done, if certain pillars such as unity and others are in place.

Part of the statement reads: “Sixty-six years ago today, on October 1, 1960, a historic chapter began in Lagos. As the Union Jack was lowered and Nigeria’s iconic Green-White-Green flag was raised, a sovereign nation emerged—filled with immense promise, hope, and determination.

“Our journey since independence has tested our collective resolve. We have endured political uncertainty, economic challenges, social upheavals, and the devastating Nigerian Civil War (1967–1970), which threatened the unity of our nation.

“Yet, through every challenge, the resilience and enduring spirit of the Nigerian people have remained unmistakable.

“We survived. We rebuilt. We persevered. And we continue to believe in Nigeria.

“Since 1999, Nigeria has maintained an uninterrupted period of democratic governance, marking another important chapter in our nation’s evolving democratic journey.

“Today, Nigeria remains a nation of remarkable diversity, enormous potential, and resilient people.

“From Lagos to Abuja, from Benin City to Maiduguri, from the Niger Delta to the North, and from every community across our homeland to Nigerian communities around the world, we remain connected by a shared identity and an enduring bond with our motherland.

“Today: Today, we honor the sacrifices of those who came before us, the contributions of our past and present leaders, and the countless everyday Nigerians whose courage, hard work, faith, and perseverance continue to keep the Nigerian dream alive.

“The Future: As we look toward the Nigeria of tomorrow, Save Nigeria Group USA calls on every Nigerian to remain committed to the work of nation-building:

“Continue to Believe in the promise and potential of Nigeria.

“Continue to Pray for peace, wisdom, justice, and responsible leadership.

“Continue to Work with courage, discipline, excellence, and unwavering dedication.

“Continue to Commit to building a secure, peaceful, united, democratic, and prosperous Nigeria—a nation we can proudly hand over to our children and generations yet unborn.

“The future of Nigeria is a responsibility we all share. Let us remain united. Let us remain steadfast. Let us keep believing. Let us keep praying. Let us keep working. And above all, let us KEEP HOPE ALIVE!”

The group wished every Nigerians all over the world “a peaceful, joyful, and memorable Independence Day and a wonderful month of October.”
