Senator representing Ekiti South Senatorial District, Senator Yemi Adaramodu, joined former governor of Ekiti State, Dr. John Kayode Fayemi; Deputy Governor of the state, Chief (Mrs.) Monisade Afuye; former First Lady, Erelu Bisi Fayemi; senior public officials, political appointees and other distinguished Nigerians today at a thanksgiving mass and celebration of life, held in honour of His Royal Majesty Oba Adebanji Ajibade Alabi, Afuntade I, the Alawe of Ilawe-Ekiti.
The solemn and colourful event took place at St. John’s Pro Cathedral, Ilawe-Ekiti, where family members, friends, traditional rulers, dignitaries and well-wishers gathered in large number to celebrate the remarkable life, enduring legacy and invaluable contributions of the revered monarch to the development of Ilawe-Ekiti, Ekiti State and humanity at large.
The thanksgiving mass was filled with tributes, prayers and reflections on the impactful reign of Oba Alabi, who was widely respected as a custodian of culture, a bridge builder and a father to all.
Senator Adaramodu, while paying his respects, described the late monarch as a distinguished royal father whose wisdom, humility and commitment to peace and development would remain indelible in the hearts of his people.
He prayed for the repose of the soul of the late Alawe and for God to grant his family, the Ilawe community and the entire Ekiti State the fortitude to bear the loss.
The celebration of life, once again, brought together eminent personalities across political and traditional divides in honour of a monarch who lived an exemplary and fulfilled life.
Makinde, Ido Community Mourn Lekan Alabi’s Demise
Meanwhile, Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde and Ido community leader, on Saturday, joined mourners over the passing of veteran journalist, Chief Lekan Alabi.
Makinde expressed deep sorrow over the demise of Alabi, a senior Ibadan Chief, veteran journalist, outstanding public affairs analyst, distinguished elder statesman, cultural icon, and respected community leader.
Governor Makinde described Chief Alabi’s passing as a monumental loss not only to Oyo State but to Nigeria as a whole, noting his invaluable contributions to journalism, culture, and public service.
Also, a community leader and follower of Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rasidi Adewolu Ladoja, in Harmony Gold, Ologuneru, Ido Local Government, Jetawo Felix, mourned the death of the culture ambassador.
Makinde said: “Chief Lekan Alabi was a man of immense wisdom, integrity, and dedication. His voice carried the weight of truth, his counsel was sought by leaders across generations, and his commitment to the preservation of Yoruba culture and values was unwavering. Oyo State has lost one of its finest sons.”
Governor Makinde said this in a statement by his Special Adviser, Media, Dr. Sulaimon Olanrewaju, at the weekend.
He extended heartfelt condolences to Chief Alabi’s family, friends, and associates, as well as to the Ibadan community and the wider Oyo State ay urged all who mourn to take solace in the enduring impact of Chief Alabi’s life and work.
“The government and people of Oyo State stand with the Alabi family at this difficult time. May the Almighty grant them strength and comfort, and may Chief Lekan Alabi’s soul rest in perfect peace,” the governor added.
Mr. Felix spoke with People&Politics on Sunday, saying that the Olubadan lost one of his important chiefs, while commiserating with the monarch, Ibadan people and members of Chief Alabi’s family.
